Mods and Thai Translation

Ratatan has no Thai language option, and as of October 17, 2026 we found no Thai fan translation either: searches for a Thai patch turn up only cheat trainers. The one working text mod is RatatanRU, an unofficial Russian translation for the Windows version that loads through MelonLoader 0.7.x. Everything else labeled as a Ratatan mod, like WeMod, is a cheat trainer rather than a translation.

Can you select Thai in Ratatan?

You cannot select Thai as an officially supported game language. The Thai Steam store warning, ไม่รองรับภาษาไทย, means that Thai is not supported; viewing the store in Thai does not change the language inside the game.

You can change the game's display language in the in-game options. The official choices are Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. Choose a supported language you can read if you want to play without installing a translation.

RatatanRU translates text into Russian. Selecting English after installing it activates that replacement; it does not add a Thai option or turn English text into Thai.

A Thai-language WeMod page offers cheats such as god mode, unlimited MP, unlimited materials, and instant kills. Those features are a trainer, not a Thai text translation. If you want language changes without cheats, that tool does not serve the same purpose as RatatanRU.

What does the RatatanRU translation change?

RatatanRU replaces roughly 4500 lines of game text with Russian, including menus, settings, tutorials, hints, items, weapons, quests, character dialogue, and story text. This makes it useful when you want to read what an item or instruction means without changing combat resources.

Text embedded in images stays unchanged, including logos and some credits. Russian text can also wrap awkwardly because it is longer than English. A translated menu alongside an unchanged logo is an expected result, so reinstalling the whole mod just for that logo will not translate it.

The RatatanRU v0.1 release was tested on game version 1.1.9 and needs MelonLoader 0.7.x.

The separate RTLC Team Russian patch is limited to 0.5.14 and explicitly does not work on newer game versions. It is a different package. Its installation instructions are not a substitute for the RatatanRU steps below.

How do you install RatatanRU?

Install MelonLoader first, let the game reach its main menu once, then extract RatatanRU into the game folder and select English in the game settings.

  1. Find the game folder. In Steam, right-click Ratatan, choose Manage, then Browse local files. The default Windows location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Ratatan. This is the folder containing Ratatan.exe.
  2. Install MelonLoader 0.7.x. Run the MelonLoader installer, select Ratatan.exe, and click Install. Select the game's executable, not the translation DLL.
  3. Launch the game once. Wait until the main menu appears, then close the game. The first launch with MelonLoader can take longer, so give that initial load time to finish.
  4. Extract the RatatanRU v0.1 archive into the game folder. The package is distributed through the kakachaDev/RatatanRU project on GitHub. Merge the folders when extracting it. The resulting files should match the paths below, relative to the folder containing Ratatan.exe.
  5. Launch again and select English in settings. The mod replaces English text with Russian. You keep English selected even though the text you read becomes Russian.
Location in the game folderWhat belongs there
Mods\RatatanRU.dllThe translation mod
UserData\RatatanRU\fonts\MPLUSRounded1c-Black.ttfThe translation font
UserData\RatatanRU\ru\*.jsonRussian text files

Pay attention to the extraction location: the DLL belongs directly inside the game's Mods folder. Leaving the whole archive inside an extra enclosing folder does not produce the layout above.

For display problems beyond translated text, continue with Ratatan can't change resolution. The translation's spacing setting below addresses Russian line spacing specifically.

How do you adjust Russian text spacing?

Edit FontLineScale in the [RatatanRU] section of UserData\MelonPreferences.cfg to adjust the spacing between Russian text lines. The configuration file appears after the first launch.

SettingValueEffect
FontLineScale0.75Default line spacing
FontLineScale0.8–0.85Suggested range when lines are too close together
FontLineScale0.65–0.7Suggested range when lines are too far apart
ApplytrueEnables the translation
TargetLocaleenReplaces the game's English text

Raise FontLineScale if lines are cramped and lower it if the gaps are too big. Leave TargetLocale on en, since that is the text the mod replaces.

What should you do if the translation disappears after an update?

Start by launching the game and waiting for the main menu so MelonLoader can update its files for the changed game version.

  1. Let that launch finish before deciding the translation has stopped working.
  2. If MelonLoader itself no longer starts and its startup console is absent, reinstall it with its installer.
  3. If the translation still fails, include MelonLoader\Latest.log when reporting the problem to the mod author.

How do you remove RatatanRU?

Delete Mods\RatatanRU.dll and the UserData\RatatanRU folder to remove the translation. To remove MelonLoader as well, run its installer and choose Uninstall.

With RatatanRU installed and English selected, you get Russian text for menus and much of the game's written content. With it removed, you can return to a supported display language through the in-game options. Continue with Ratatan how to play for the game itself, or Ratatan multiplayer when you are ready to set up a group.
